Jacek Kucharczyk

Dr Jacek Kucharczyk, a sociologist and think-tanker. President of the Executive Board at the Institute of Public Affairs, one of Poland’s leading think-tanks. Board member of the European Partnership for Democracy (EDP) in Brussels. Member of the Council of the National School of Public Administration (KSAP). One of the founders and board member of Policy Association for an Open Society PASOS, an association of think-tanks from Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia. In the 1980s he was active in the underground student and publishing movement. Author and editor of numerous policy briefs, articles, reports and books on democratic governance, foreign policy, EU integration and transatlantic relations.
His publications include: “Bridges Across the Atlantic”, “Learning from the experience of West-European think tanks”, “Democracy in Poland 2005-2007”, “Democracy in Poland – 2007-2009”, "Populist Politics and Liberal Democracy in Central and Eastern Europe, "Learning from the experience of west-European thin thanks”, “Democracy and Populism in Central Europe: The Visegrad Elections and Their Aftermath”, "Democracy's New Champions. European Democracy Assistance after EU Enlargement”. Frequently comments on current domestic and European affairs and political developments for printed and electronic media, Polish and international.
Jacek Kucharczyk received Ph.D. in Sociology in 1999 at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In 1994-1995 a fellow at the Graduate Faculty of the New School for Social Research in New York. Earlier studied at University of Kent at Canterbury (M.A. in Philosophy in 1992) and Warsaw University (MA in English Studies).
