The 2013-14 Basket Fund for Moldova was the third of its kind managed by EPD and began in October 2013. It was supported by NED and the Moldovan Ministry of Youth and Sport.
The first Basket Fund was managed in 2011-12 and gave small grants to a total of seven projects following a Partnership Fair – bringing together donors, Moldovan NGOs and independent media – held in Chisinau. The project sought to improve coordination between donors and civil society as well as supporting the democratic transition in the country. It was supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
The second Basket Fund sought to foster greater cross border assistance for Moldova’s civil society, including financial support, joint programs, and a sharing of experiences regarding democratic transitions and European integration, from the civil society and governments of the EU. It was implemented between 2012-13, funding a total of 5 projects out of the 67 submitted, with each given a greater sum than those in the first Basket Fund. It was supported by NED, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Eastern Europe Foundation, and the Moldovan Ministry of Youth.
