Joao Carlos Espada
João Carlos Espada is Professor of Political Studies and Director of the Institute for Political Studies of the Portuguese Catholic University. He is also political adviser of the President of the Portuguese Republic, Prof. Aníbal Cavaco Silva (since March 2006), having held a similar position during the first Presidential term of Mr. Mário Soares (1986-1990). He is Editor of Nova Cidadania, a Portuguese quarterly, columnist of the weekly newspaper Expresso, and president of the Portuguese chapter of the International Churchill Society, as well as founder and member of the Board of Directors of the European Foundation for Democracy through Partnership.
