The EU–Zimbabwe political dialogue: moving towards enhanced cooperation
On July 2 2010, the High Representative / Vice President Catherine Ashton and Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs met with a Ministerial Delegation from the Zimbabwean Government in the framework of the Political Dialogue, as foreseen in the Cotonou Agreement, which was relaunched in June last year. Press Freedom 2.0: pluralism and participation
The Press Freedom Consortium, a new collaboration of five Dutch development organisations (including the European Partnership for Democarcy) that support press freedom worldwide, has finalised and submitted its final programme application this Thursday to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague, in the context of the 'Co-Financing System II' (MFSII). Honduras: one year after the coup
Honduras ousted its civilian president, Manuel Zelaya, on June 28, 2009, in the first military coup in Central America since the end of the cold war. The ensuing political crisis created turmoil inside Honduras, where curfews and regular marches by Mr. Zelaya's supporters paralyzed the capital, and the suspension of international aid stalled badly needed projects. Press Release: European MPs Reject Sham Elections and Pledge Support for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi
The European Parliamentary Caucus on Burma has written an open letter to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, detained leader of Burma's democracy movement, on the occasion of her 65th birthday. The European Parliamentary Caucus on Burma represents MPs from sixteen countries. The MPs pledged to continue to work for genuine democracy and human rights in Burma, rejecting sham elections due later this year. Read more.
EPD at European Foundation Week
The European Partnership for Democracy (EPD) participated on the 1st of June in the panel discussion "Providing Experience on Democracy and Good Governance" during last week's (31 May-4 June) European Foundation Week. Although foundations are key players in supporting economic, cultural and social projects, their public profile is rather limited. For this reason, the European Foundation Centre (EFC) offered with the first-ever Foundation Week a platform where EU policymakers, NGOs, multilateral organizations, foundations and the general public could discuss the work of foundations in a series of seminars and debates, covering topics such as arts and culture, environment, health, international relations and development, philanthropic capacity building, research and education as well as socio-economic development. Partnership Fair Moldova

European Partnership for Democracy (EPD), the East Europe Foundation
(EEF) and Promo-LEX have the pleasure to announce the organization of
European Partnership Fair for Civil Society Organizations in Moldova
which will take place in Chisinau, Moldova on June 15 and 16, 2010. The
three organizations joined their efforts with the goal of bringing more
European organizations and donors to Moldova to work with local partner
organizations in strengthening the country's fledgling democracy, show
support for its pro-European agenda and share valuable experience

The EPD congratulates the National Democratic Institute (NDI) on its 25th Anniversary. The NDI has provided vital support to political and social actors in nearly 120 countries, strengthening democratic development from within, so that people can live in freedom and shape their aspirations in democratic societies where human rights are recognized and protected.

EPD civic education activities for participation in Zimbabwean constitutional reform
Zimbabwe celebrated its 30th anniversary of independence on April 18th, EPD congratulates all Zimbabweans with this milestone celebration of freedom from white-minority domination and apartheid. Only 30 years ago the current Zimbabwean constitution was written, in the UK, currently Zimbabweans are preparing a revision of this document, to come up with a Constitution which is driven by the Zimbabwean people. EPD has supported a number of Zimbabwean-driven civic education and information activities, providing neutral information from Zimbabweans to Zimbabweans in order for them to participate meaningfully in the constitutional reform process.
