Partnership Fair Moldova

undefinedThe European Partnership for Democracy (EPD), the East Europe Foundation (EEF) and Promo-LEX have the pleasure to announce the organization of European Partnership Fair for Civil Society Organizations in Moldova which will take place in Chisinau, Moldova on June 15 and 16, 2010. The three organizations joined their efforts with the goal of bringing more European organizations and donors to Moldova to work with local partner organizations in strengthening the country's fledgling democracy, show support for its pro-European agenda and share valuable experience gained from other European transitions to democracy.

Please find here the video of the opening session:

Moldova has undergone significant changes in 2009. The opportunity for a successful democratic transition in Moldova is considerable, yet the country remains poor, its media lacks pluralism, and its civil society is undernourished. Furthermore, despite the country being in a pro-European transition phase, there is only limited contact between European and Moldovan civil society organizations (CSOs). As the civil society is vital for development of democratic system there is a need for capacity building of the CSOs. Moldovan civil society still has only limited contact with European NGOs, which thereby limits their ability to learn from more experienced counterparts. Such cooperation could show lessons from other Central and Eastern European transitions to democracy, how individuals in those countries took their first steps in creating a viable civil society, worked with their constituencies, and mobilized people for civil activities.

Organizations from Europe and from Moldova will meet here with donors and propose projects and activities which would boost cooperation, coordination, and knowledge transfer between CSOs from EU member states and from Moldova in democracy assistance with a particular focus on sharing their transition and European-integration experience. This event will also foster dialog between Moldovan CSOs, government representatives and key bilateral and regional donors on what should be the priorities in Moldova to overcome the political and economic challenges. By bringing European organizations on board the initiative hopes to support reform minded groups in Moldova with expertise from, and contacts with, leading European experts in the field of democratic transition and Europeanization.

The topics of the forum will be: human rights and fundamental freedoms, media and freedom of speech, social action, youth and environment, European integration so we are addressing organizations active in this field.
