‘National salvation’ government to oversee Egypt’s transition?
"Egypt's military has offered to accelerate the transition to civilian rule by forming a national unity government and bringing forward presidential elections to the end of June 2012. Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi insisted that next week’s parliamentary elections will go ahead, but also said the military was considering a referendum on transferring power to a civilian authority. The military is reportedly poised to appoint a "national unity" government, as proposed by former IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei and endorsed by the protesters". Read more
