Polish ex-minister Geremek dies
An icon in the recent history of European transitions to democracy, the Polish liberal MEP Bronislaw Geremek, died in a car accident yesterday. Mr Geremek, 76, died when the car he was in hit an oncoming vehicle in western Poland on Sunday afternoon. He was one of the key advisers to Lech Walesa, the Solidarity union leader which helped topple communist rule. Read the article (BBC website).
