Nationale Postcode Loterij
On 4 February 2010, European Partnership for Democracy was the very fortunate recipient of €500.000 from the Dutch Postcode Lottery. The Lottery, which is the largest charity lottery in the Netherlands, contributes 50 percent of its annual profit to carefully selected aid organisations and charities concerned with bettering the lives of people and of nature. On the Goed Geld Gala 2010 charity event, the National Postcode Lottery announced that 75 charitable organizations received a total of over 256 million Euros from the 2009 earnings of the Lottery. Example of project EPD could develop with the support of the Dutch Postcode Lottery: Assistance to victims of political violence in Zimbabwe
Starting in 2009, the EPD has been supporting victims of the 2008 electoral violence to express European solidarity with Zimbabwean people who had to pay a high price working for a more democratic Zimbabwe. Through its tlocal partner organisations, EPD provided practical assistance for widows and democracy activists, including school fees, pottery, alternative housing of refugees, as well as a series of small income-generating projects that give victims of political violence the opportunity to earn a living in an independent, dignified manner. The projects include a sewing cooperative and kapenta packing enterprise in Harare and a chicken-rearing venture in the north-east of the country. Zimbabwe continues to be a tough operational environment for international non-governmental organisations, but thanks to the support of the Dutch National Postcode Lottery, the EPD can also in 2010 remain committed to helping those citizens injured or disadvantaged in their country's struggle for a democratic future.
