Political Parties of Finland for Democracy, Demo Finland,
functions as a co-operative organisation for Finnish parliamentary
parties.It seeks to enhance democracy by carrying out and facilitating
collaborative projects between Finnish political parties and political
movements in the developing countries. The purpose of these
collaborative projects is to promote dialogue and mutual learning on
different forms of democracy, and the problems and possibilities
thereof.
T
he Eastern Europe Studies Centre is a non-governmental, non-profit organization aiming to build civil
society and promote democracy in Eastern Europe by monitoring and
researching political, economic, and social developments in the region,
and by developing qualitative analyses of them. EESC organizes
conferences, seminars, and round-table discussions regarding issues
relevant to civil society and democracy; it trains people in areas
relevant to its mission; and it also offers consultations and
recommendations to individuals and organizations cooperating with
Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia. EESC specializes in the E.U.'s
Eastern neighborhood policy.
The I
nstitute of Public Affairs (IPA) is an independent, non-partisan public policy think tank. The IPA was
established in 1995 to support modernisation reforms and to provide a
forum for informed debate on social and political issues. It conducts
research as well as societal analysis and presents policy
recommendations.
The Institute for Public Affairs (slovak acronym IVO) is an independent non-governmental, nonprofit
organization bringing together experts from many different areas of
study. It was founded with the aim of promoting the values of an open
society and a democratic political culture in public policy and
decision-making.
The Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy, NIMD is an institute of political parties for political parties. In line
with the development cooperation policy of the Dutch Government and as a
response to international requests for support by political parties and
groups abroad, the Dutch political parties PvdA, VVD, CDA, D66, the
Green-Left party, the Christian Union and SGP decided to set up a new
foundation: the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD).
This foundation was established on 18 April 2000. The mandate of NIMD is
to encourage the process of democratisation in young democracies by
providing support to political parties as the core pillars of a
multiparty democracy. NIMD works in a strictly non-partisan and
inclusive manner.
People in Need (PIN) is a Czech organization that provides relief aid and development
assistance, while working to defend human rights and democratic
freedom. At home, People in Need administers social integration
programs in the Czech Republic and Slovakia and provides informative and
educational activities. PIN is one of the largest organizations of its
kind in post-communist Europe, and has administered projects in
thirty-seven countries over the past fourteen years.
The PONTIS Foundation is one of the largest grantmaking and operational foundations in
Slovakia. The name of the foundation is taken from the Latin word for
“bridge” and expresses its purpose: to connect the sectors of Slovak
society with one another and to link sources of financial support with
those who need it. PONTIS encourages individuals and businesses to take
responsibility for those in need and for the world around them,
contribute to the building of democracy in non-democratic countries,
create awareness about this need in Slovakia, and advocate for
values-oriented Slovak and EU foreign policies. The PONTIS Foundation
was established in 1997 as the successor to the Foundation for a Civil
Society. They have more than 10 years of experience in managing grant
and foundation funds.
The Universidade Catolica Portuguesa, Political Studies Institute is active in research and offers undergraduate and graduate programs in th areas of political science, international relations as well as security and defense.
Partner Organizations
DEMAS (Association for Democracy Assistance and Human Rights), is an
independent platform of Czech non-governmental organisations (NGOs), was
established in 2008. The founding membership comprises 11 NGOs that
have over many years demonstrated their commitment to the support of
democracy assistance, human rights and civil society in the Czech
Republic and abroad.
In a world where countries and regions must cooperate to address urgent
problems – climate change, conflict, food security, health and education
– the European Centre for Development Policy Management, ECDPM helps countries in Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP)
build effective partnerships that will tackle these and other
development challenges. Economic and political North-South relations are
usually biased towards the most powerful. The ECDPM therefore want to reduce
the ‘asymmetries’ in policy making between the EU and ACP countries. By
making the EU-ACP partnership more balanced and effective the ECDPM stimulates
developing countries to unleash their full potential. THe ECDPM provides support
to key development processes in developing regions and countries in a
long term perspective. By doing so the ECDPM assists the ACP in strengthening
their institutions and capacities to develop policies and strategies
that shape their own futures and provide pathways out of poverty.
FRIDE is a think tank based in Madrid that aims to provide the best and most
innovative thinking on Europe’s role in the international arena. It
strives to break new ground in its core research interests of peace and
security, human rights, democracy promotion, and development and
humanitarian aid, and mould debate in governmental and non-governmental
bodies through rigorous analysis, rooted in the values of justice,
equality and democracy. FRIDE seeks to provide fresh and innovative
thinking on Europe’s role on the international stage. As a prominent
European think tank, FRIDE benefits from political independence,
diversity of views and the intellectual background of its international

PASOS, the Policy Association for an Open Society, promotes and protects open society values, including democracy, the rule of law, good governance, respect for and protection of human rights, and economic and social development, by supporting entities that individually and jointly foster public participation in public policy issues at the European Union level, in other European structures, and in the wider neighbourhood of Europe and Central Asia.
