The stalled political conflict in the Transnistrian region brought to a deep divide between the societies of the two banks of the Dniester. After 20 years of separation, the level of inter-communal unity is fragile: a culture of conflict and injustice has developed over the years, combined with the almost exclusively anti-Moldovan and anti-Western media environment.
As a logical continuation of the project “Building bridges between NGOs, business associations and media from Moldova, Ukraine and Russia for conflict prevention in Transnistria”, East Europe Foundation and its partners Agency for Regional Development of Transnistria (ARD), Centre for Innovation and Social Development (CISD) in Transnistria, Independent Institute for Law and Civil Society Tiraspol (ILCS), and EPD launched the action “Building bridges, facing challenges – Building bridges between the civil society and communities on two banks of Nistru River”. Its main goal is to foster the engagement of grass-roots civil society actors and initiative groups from both banks of Nistru river in joint forums of discussion. The activities will be implemented over 29 months.
Structured around a cross-regional approach, facilitating the cooperation of Moldovan (including Transnistrian) CSOs, the action will contribute to the conflict resolution and will enhance the replicability of the proposed methodology of intervention. The target groups will be local civil society actors from all regions of Moldova, alongside journalists and media representatives, and teachers.
In order to strengthen the capacity of civil society to design and implement innovative interventions, the action will use innovative tools, such as online trainings, webinars, and coaching. EEF participation in donors meeting on CSOs support is organised by the Swedish Embassy, and the donors meetings on Transnistria is organised by the Delegation of the European Union (EU): these elements will ensure a good coordination with other initiatives in the region, avoiding duplication of efforts.
